Song of the Open Road on Vagabond Journey.com

Song of the Open Road on Vagabond Journey.com

For many reasons varying from SEO to personal tastes to the advice of the Hobo Traveler, I have considered moving this blog over to Vagabond Journey.com, my main site.

This is just an experiment at this point, and I am wondering what you think. I do not really like conventional blog templates and I would like to have all of my work on my own host. Please let me know what you think.

Perhaps I am prejudiced a little, but I like the simplistic nature of the new blog layout (there is hardly even a layout), and I think that the navigational directory keeps older posts from getting completely buried.

I intend to keep posting photos, videos, and excerpts on Blogger and linking to the posts on Vagabond Journey.com. So this blog can be used as a navigational tool to move around to the new posts on Vagabond Journey.

Read New Vagabond Journey Travel Blog for more about this idea.

This is only an experiment, so let me know what you think. If it does not work out, I will be putting the bulk of my posts right back on Blogger, as it is a really good service.

To go to the other posts on Vagabond Journey.com go to the Travel Blog Directory.

Or go directly to the posts from here.

Whatever works the best for you man. The thing I like about this blog is that it has all the archives, featured posts, and travel tips all conveniently located on the side bar...

GET OFF OF BLOGGER. Leave the existing content as it is, and start fresh with WordPress.

Why do you say that Craig? I have tried WordPress and I like that as well, but I am just wondering why you like WordPress better...

1) You're not a the mercy of someone else's system. Your install of WP is under your control, and only changes when you want it to

2) There is no whirling publishing clog. WP generates and updates pages instantly from the database, and doesn't require FTPing into a server to upload a file

3) Better backup -- grab a free automated plugin and have it e-mailed to you nightly

4) Plugins! Thousands and thousands to resolve problems and make the site do what you want it to

5) Friendlier commenting system

For more, just search for "wordpress versus blogger"

Take a spin on WordPress.com to check out the interface before you install on your own server, which seriously takes less than 5 minutes.

Thanks,

I appreciate all of this advice on blogging, blogging systems, Wordpress and Blogger.....it all blows my mind a little.

Think I am just going to do it all by hand from now on. Keep it simple.

Well, until I can understand what all of this means.
